Baseball Game Preview: Topsail Pirates vs. Wakefield Wolverines

The Topsail Pirates will challenge the Wakefield Wolverines on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Topsail is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Riverside-Durham. Topsail's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Wakefield entered their tilt with Pine Forest on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Tyler Rotellini's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Thomas Piscorik was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Wakefield's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Topsail, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-11.
