Softball Recap: Templeton Eagles vs. Atascadero Greyhounds

Templeton was the 9-8 winner over Atascadero when they last played one another back in April, but their luck changed this time around. The Templeton Eagles fell just short of the Atascadero Greyhounds by a score of 14-12 on Friday. Templeton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jessie Branch and Bailey Fiorenza stepped up to the plate in a big way. Branch got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, a run, and a double, while Fiorenza scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Marquart, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-5.

Even though they lost, Templeton was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. That's the most doubles they've managed all season.

On Atascadero's side, Olivia Moscardi made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Moscardi has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Moscardi was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carmen Burrell, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Priscilla Allison was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Templeton's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Atascadero, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12.
