Volleyball Recap: Saugus Takes a Loss

After flying high against Winthrop on Wednesday, Saugus came back down to earth. The Sachems came up short against the Masconomet Regional Chieftains on Thursday, falling 3-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Sachems in their meetings with the Chieftains: they've now lost six in a row.

The final score came out to 25-10, 25-17, 25-17.

Masconomet Regional's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elise Clapp led the charge by getting seven aces and five digs. Those seven aces gave Clapp a new career-high. Lidia Benedetto was another key player, getting 12 digs and two assists.

Saugus' loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Masconomet Regional, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Saugus is set to take on their familiar foe Swampscott at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Masconomet Regional will face off against rival Danvers at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
