Baseball Game Preview: Morse Tigers vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers

For the second straight game, Morse will face off against Mission Bay. The Tigers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. Morse has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Morse's offense. They came up short against Mission Bay on Tuesday, falling 15-0. The Tigers have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

For Mission Bay's part, Van Playman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Playman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mission Bay got a massive performance out of Kaden Jones, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Jones a new career-high. Gavin Griffiths was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Mission Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Mission Bay's third in a row) raised their record to 21-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morse, their loss dropped their record down to 7-19-1.
