Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hunt came into Friday's match looking for another win against Southern Wayne, but Nevaeh Hines-Bass wouldn't allow it. The Southern Wayne Saints snuck past the Hunt Warriors with a 41-36 win on Friday thanks in part to Hines-Bass, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Southern Wayne's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Williams, who posted nine points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Hunt's loss came despite strong showings from Mahalia Thoms and Juliana Jones. Thoms went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points and eight boards, while Jones went 5 for 7 on her way to 10 points. Thoms is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Mikayla McNeill also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Southern Wayne moved to 6-11 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Hunt, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Southern Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 34-32 defeat against South Johnston on the 4th. As for Hunt, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-30 loss against East Wake on the 4th.
