Basketball Recap: Boone Central Comes Up Short

Boone Central lost against Battle Creek back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Boone Central Cardinals took a 42-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Battle Creek Braves. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Braves are ranked 35th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Battle Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mckailey Holecek, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and three steals. What's more, Holecek also posted a 63% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Jaidan Wehrle was another key player, going 6 for 11 en route to 14 points.

Boone Central dropped their record down to 8-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Battle Creek, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Boone Central has already played their next match, a 51-38 victory against Ponca on the 1st. As for Battle Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-36 defeat against Cedar Catholic on the 3rd.
