Preview: Dalhart Wolves vs. Denver City Mustangs
The Dalhart Wolves will be playing at home against the Denver City Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Despite a strong season so far, Dalhart has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Muleshoe on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dalhart in their matchups with Muleshoe: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite their loss, Dalhart saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Hunter Trusler, who picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground, was perhaps the best of all. Trusler's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler W Read, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Denver City came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 43-6 win over Kermit. Considering Denver City has won four matchups by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Muleshoe's victory bumped their season record to 8-2 while Dalhart's loss dropped theirs to 7-3.
Dalhart beat Denver City 31-21 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Does Dalhart have another victory up their sleeve, or will Denver City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
