Baseball Recap: River City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sacramento

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask River City). They never let the Sacramento Dragons get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Nick Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because River City is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Carrington, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of River City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Bart Sy also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

River City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for River City and bumps their season record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Sacramento, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-13-1.

River City will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
