Softball Recap: Astoria/VIT Takes a Loss

Astoria/VIT extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-16 in the process. They lost 18-8 to the Liberty Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Rebels have lost by exactly ten runs.

Astoria/VIT saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was H Horwedel, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. S Heller was another, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Liberty, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

On Liberty's side, Ava Heming made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Heming was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Obert, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Riley Fessler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Astoria/VIT will take on Havana at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Ducks' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Liberty, they have already played their next match, a 14-8 win against Camp Point Central on the 9th.
