Recap: Gloucester Fishermen vs. Hanover Hawks
If The Gloucester Fishermen were feeling good off their 42-21 takedown of the Beverly Panthers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gloucester suffered a rough 42-16 defeat at the hands of Hanover on Friday. While losing is never fun, Gloucester can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Hanover is ranked 13th).
Despite the loss, Gloucester still got an impressive performance from John Gucciardi, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 45 yards and a touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Gloucester's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Peabody Veterans Memorial and 7-2 Salem (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.4% over those games). As for Hanover, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Gloucester will head out on the road to face off against Revere at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hanover, they will face off against Bishop Stang at TBD on Friday. Bishop Stang will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
