Softball Recap: Glenbard West Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Glenbard West hadn't done well against York recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Hilltoppers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Dukes. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 back in April.

Olivia Salerno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Glenbard West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Stieglitz, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Ellie Frank also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Glenbard West's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for York, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Glenbard West will face off against Proviso West at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Hilltoppers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for York, they will take on Willowbrook at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
