Recap: Red Mesa Redskins vs. Valley Pirates
Even though the Red Mesa Redskins have not done well against the Valley Pirates recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Red Mesa managed a 54-49 victory over Valley. The win made it back-to-back wins for Red Mesa.
Red Mesa can attribute much of their success to Jonah Herbert, who scored 24 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. The matchup was Herbert's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jerwin Begay, who scored 12 points along with 7 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hayden Etsitty. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points. Ethan Yazzie was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Red Mesa now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Valley, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Red Mesa will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Greyhills Academy at 7:00 p.m. As for Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Joseph City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Joseph City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
