Basketball Recap: Covenant Day's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Covenant Day entered their tilt with Asheville Christian Academy on Wednesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went their way against the Asheville Christian Academy Lions as they made off with a 70-48 win. Covenant Day has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Covenant Day to victory were Kaitlyn Allen and Avery Houseton. Allen dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards, while Houseton went 9 of 11 on her way to 22 points along with eight boards and six assists. Houseton has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Taryn Van Der Schaaf was another key player, going 5 for 7 on her way to 13 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Covenant Day was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Laura Rinehart, who went 9 of 12 on her way to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Rinehart a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Larios, who posted 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals.

Covenant Day has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Covenant Day will head out to square off against Curtis Baptist at 3:15 p.m. on December 27th. Curtis Baptist's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so Covenant Day's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 48-15 victory against Gaston Day on the 20th.
