Basketball Recap: Caldwell Takes a Loss

Caldwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a hard 50-33 fall against the Monroe Central Seminoles. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 575th, while the Seminoles are ranked 148th).

Despite the defeat, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Breighlee Moracco went 6 of 9 on her way to 18 points and four steals. That was a full 54.5% of Caldwell's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Caldwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Monroe Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Caldwell will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Monroe Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Monroe Central and Fort Frye will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
