Baseball Game Preview: Mount Michael Benedictine Knights vs. Waverly Vikings

Mount Michael Benedictine is 2-8 against Waverly since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Neither Mount Michael Benedictine nor Waverly posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Skutt Catholic hit Mount Michael Benedictine with a five-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights came up short against the SkyHawks, falling 9-2. The Knights just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Mount Michael Benedictine saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Teetor, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Waverly faced Norris in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Titans. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won six games in a row.

Waverly also got a great performance from Owen Glassburner as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, Glassburner posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Waverly's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Mount Michael Benedictine suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Waverly when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
