Basketball Recap: West Elk Patriots vs. Oxford Wildcats
The West Elk Patriots lost against the Oxford Wildcats back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. West Elk took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Elk in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, West Elk had strong showings from Maddex Moreno, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Uriah Tillapaugh, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Moreno hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Haag, who scored four points along with two steals.
Leading Oxford to victory were Kellen Green and Cordell Jordan. Green dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Jordan scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Jordan hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Cayden Carpenter was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
West Elk's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Oxford, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
West Elk will face off against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Oxford, they will be playing at home against the Red Raiders at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Argonia is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
