After going without a home run for three seasons, Cornerstone Christian infielder and catcher Ivan Hoyt has eight thus far in 2022.

Ivan Hoyt has found his power stroke. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior from Cornerstone Christian (San Antonio) leads the Lone Star State with eight home runs after not hitting a single dinger his first three years on varsity.

Hoyt, a third-baseman and catcher, has led the Warriors to a 33-2-2 record and No. 11 spot in the MaxPreps state computer rankings. In 80 at bats, Hoyt, a Dartmouth commit, is hitting .512 with 41 hits and 32 RBI. Besides his eight home runs, he has 12 doubles and a triple.

In three previous season, Hoyt had 133 at bats without a round-tripper but hit well above .400 as a sophomore (.434) and junior (.488). He's been on a tear of late with homers in his last three games and four of five. The Warriors have outscored their opponents 394-60 through 37 games.

Nobody else in the state has hit more than six home runs and only 61 have hit three or more. The national leader is Garrett Michel of East Lincoln (Denver, N.C.) with 13 home runs.

MaxPreps compiles leaderboards from statistics supplied by high school coaches from the state and throughout the country.
