Basketball Recap: Elkhorn North Falls Despite Big Games from Sahler Smith and Kara Kudlacz

Elkhorn North was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-53 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gretna Dragons.

Kara Kudlacz and Sahler Smith certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Kudlacz posted five points in addition to five assists and four steals, while Smith put up four points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Reagan Palmer, who had six points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Elkhorn North was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ava Mcartor went supernova for Gretna, putting up 23 points. The dominant performance gave Mcartor a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Marshall, who posted 13 points.

Elkhorn North now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Gretna, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.

Elkhorn North wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-33 win against Standing Bear on the 10th. As for Gretna, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-22 defeat against Waverly on the 9th.
