Softball Game Preview: Red Hook Raiders vs. Rondout Valley Ganders

Red Hook hasn't had much luck against Rondout Valley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Ganders at 4:15 p.m. Red Hook has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Red Hook's offense. They came up short against Marlboro Central on Wednesday, falling 14-0. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Raiders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Ella Schoonmaker put in work no matter where she played. She pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sophia Johnson and Joleigh Kozack did some serious damage despite the final result: Johnson went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Kozack went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Lauren Schoonmaker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Red Hook's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Rondout Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
