Baseball Recap: Benson Comes Up Short

Benson had lost 23 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it 24. They came up short against the Auburn Bulldogs, falling 22-0. The Bunnies were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Auburn, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Auburn's part, Jackson Warner and Landon Casey made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Warner pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Casey tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Warner went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Casey went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brycen Meyer, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Noah Erickson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Benson will take on rival Burke at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Auburn is set to face off against their familiar foe Platteview at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
