Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Menendez's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Menendez unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to the Mainland Buccaneers 39-34. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-62 on December 6th.

When it comes to explaining why Menendez lost, don't look at Nykia Deans. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Those 21 points gave Deans a new career-high.

Menendez's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Mainland, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Menendez Falcons face off against the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Menendez is facing Episcopal School of Jacksonville at the right time seeing as Episcopal School of Jacksonville is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mainland, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Seminole at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
