Baseball Recap: North Salinas Continues Road Dominance on Monday

North Salinas lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Seaside, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Vikings' pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jake Burkhardt was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. He has become a key player for North Salinas: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was David Avina, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

North Salinas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

North Salinas' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Seaside, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, North Salinas will take on Harbor at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Seaside will be paying especially close attention to the Vikings' game: after the Vikings face off against the Pirates, they'll take on Seaside again at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
