Softball Game Preview: Hanson Beavers vs. McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars

The Hanson Beavers will head out to square off against the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hanson will be strutting in after a win while McCook Central/Montrose will be coming in after a loss.

Hanson barely beat Wagner the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Beavers put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 22-4 victory on Monday. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, McCook Central/Montrose didn't have quite enough to beat Scotland/Menno on Monday and fell 6-5.

Mya Morrison was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashtyn Deknikker, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Hanson is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for McCook Central/Montrose, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Hanson took their victory against McCook Central/Montrose when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
