Basketball Recap: Lapel Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lapel can now relate to. They fell 54-47 to the Sheridan Blackhawks on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-41 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Lapel lost, don't look at Laniah Wills. Despite the final result, she went 12 for 18 to rack up 29 points and eight boards. That was a full 61.7% of Lapel's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Sophie Goodwin was another key player, putting up eight points.

It was another big night for Kenzie Garner, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and 13 rebounds for Sheridan. Garner's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Timme, who had six points and six boards.

Lapel's loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Sheridan, the victory was the 22nd in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-1.

Lapel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sheridan, they will challenge Lewis Cass at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Lewis Cass will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Sheridan surely won't give up without a fight.
