Softball Game Preview: Field Falcons vs. Springfield Spartans

The Field Falcons will square off against the Springfield Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Field got the win against Norton by a conclusive 14-1. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Springfield waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Ravens 9-2.

Lilli Stokes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kendall Crytzer and Bre Ruggiero did most of the damage at the plate: Crytzer went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Ruggiero went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Crytzer has posted since back in March of 2024. Emily Crytzer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.

Field's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Springfield, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

Field took their win against Springfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-6 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
