Basketball Recap: Rocky Mount Prep Takes a Loss

Rocky Mount Prep lost against Weldon back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars took a blow against the Weldon Chargers, falling 56-27. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rocky Mount Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Silver, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Silver is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Qualasia Jones was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rocky Mount Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Weldon was led to victory by Shaelyn Johnson and Kamya Coles. Johnson posted 24 points, while Coles had 22 points. With that strong performance, Johnson is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game.

Rocky Mount Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Weldon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Rocky Mount Prep has already played their next game, a 73-30 loss against North Edgecombe on the 31st. As for Weldon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-39 defeat against Northampton County on the 31st.
