Baseball Game Preview: Fort Jennings Musketeers vs. Kalida Wildcats

The Fort Jennings Musketeers are taking a road trip to challenge the Kalida Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Jennings is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Fort Jennings had just enough and edged out Lima Central Catholic 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Musketeers.

Calvin Menke was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Fort Jennings: the team is 10-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarron Swick, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fort Jennings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.

Kalida came out on top against Continental on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Wildcats blew past the Pirates 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory was the third in a row for Kalida, bringing their record up to 16-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Fort Jennings, their record is now 14-8.
