Volleyball Recap: Kathryn Driend Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Westwood + How To Watch

There's no place like home for Methuen, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Westwood Wolverines on Friday, sneaking past 3-2. For the Rangers, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Methuen had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 22-25, 17-25, 27-25, 26-24, 15-9.

Methuen's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kathryn Driend, who had 13 digs, four aces, and two blocks. Driend is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Caylee O'Brien, who had 13 kills, seven digs, three aces, and two blocks.

They weren't the only good servers: Methuen was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces every time they've taken the court this season.

With the win, Methuen broke their three-match losing streak and moved their record to 11-6. As for Westwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.

Methuen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Haverhill on the 15th. As for Westwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Canton on the 15th.
