5A Front Range recap Nov. 7, 2012

Fort Collins was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Lakewood. The Lambkins came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.

Fort Collins extended the longest winning streak in 5A Front Range this week by beating the Tigers, 24-17. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Travis Avila threw for 438 yards and five touchdowns. He was 19-25 with zero interceptions.

Dieon Atencio made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mountain Range lost to Cherokee Trail. The junior grabbed one interception.

Jordan Iacovetta was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 194 yards as Horizon lost to Bear Creek. Dante Chand also contributed to the rushing game with 107 yards on the ground.

Pinkston was the best wideout in the league this week as the Impalas fell to the Bears. Pinkston tallied nine receptions for 149 yards. Spencer Long helped Poudre's passing attack out by catching three balls for 20 yards.

Fossil Ridge's Avila and Corey Peter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Front Range in both passing and receiving yards. Avila has thrown for 2415 yards this season, while Peter, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 51 catches for 925 yards. Gabe Gellespie from the Mustangs leads the league in rushing with 812 yards.

The Sabercats took down Hinkley 74-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Avila ran for 76 yards in the win.
