Cypress Bay takes loss despite strong efforts from Sofia Gonano and Peyton Looky

Recap: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. South Broward Bulldogs

The Cypress Bay Lightning suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by South Broward on the road and fell 79-36. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cypress Bay has scored all season.

Cypress Bay's loss came despite strong showings from Peyton Looky and Sofia Gonano. Looky scored nine points along with four steals, while Gonano scored nine points.

Cypress Bay struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South Broward racked up 22 assists.

Leading South Broward to victory were Jazmine Jones and Fabiana Poindujour. Jones dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 11 assists, and 11 steals, while Poindujour shot 6-for-11 from long range and dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten steals. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jamesha Card, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Cypress Bay and nudges their season record down to 15-3. As for South Broward, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cypress Bay won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Coral Springs at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for South Broward, they will head out on the road to square off against Stoneman Douglas at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stoneman Douglas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 435th, while South Broward is ranked 70th).
