Basketball Game Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Overton Eagles

Having just played yesterday, the Amherst Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Overton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Amherst will be strutting in after a victory while Overton will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Amherst didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Ansley/Litchfield, but they still walked away with a 40-35 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Broncos.

Amherst got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Libby Mitchell out in front who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of AnnDee Jaixen, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Overton took a blow against Shelton on Friday, falling 61-25. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 46th).

Amherst will have to contain Gracen Hughes as she made an impact in Overton's last game. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hughes a new career-high in boards.

Amherst's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Overton, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Amherst opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-42 loss to Overton. Can Amherst avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
