Football Recap: Corner Canyon Takes Down Syracuse in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Corner Canyon had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-14 victory over the Syracuse Titans. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won nine games by 25 points or more so far this season.

Corner Canyon had a senior duo take command as Helaman Casuga threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns while completing 95.7% of his passes and Isaiah Morris picked up 188 receiving yards and three scores. Those 188 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Morris. Jesean Mayberry was another key player, picking up 60 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Corner Canyon proved: they limited Syracuse to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jace Iverson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Corner Canyon hasn't allowed more than 6.5 yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.

Corner Canyon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Josh Harris and Isaac Otuafi.

Although Syracuse took the loss, they still got scores from Ledger Wight and Tanner Merrill.

Corner Canyon's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Syracuse, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Corner Canyon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-20 victory against Mountain Ridge on the 14th. Syracuse does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
