And this week, the Trojans have the uber-talented
Brandon Carter for that.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the versatile Oklahoma State-bound standout rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns as No. 1 Trinity pulled out a 28-24 win over previously-unbeaten
Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas) Saturday in a Class 5A Division I semifinal win at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Afterward, Stony Point coach Craig Chessher said he'd only coached against one other player better than Carter. The other was Vince Young.
Trinity (15-0), which won previous playoff games by scores of 37-35 and 41-40, now moves into the state finals against Pearland (15-0) next week at Cowboys Stadium.
Carter, who split time between quarterback and receiver, gave his team a 21-17 lead with a 13-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Trojans increased it to 28-17 on a 25-yard run by
Terrrence Tusan, who finished with 12 carries for 144 yards.
Stony Point closed to 28-24 with 11:45 left in the game on a 48-yard touchdown run by
Jihad Johnson.
But Trinity, which rushed for 400 yards, put it away with a drive all on the ground that chewed up the final 7:13.
"Coach said we did all the tricks and stuff in the first half," fullback
Serge Nseka told the Dallas Morning News. "Now, we needed to play Trinity Trojan football: run the ball up the middle."
