Baseball Game Preview: South Summit Wildcats vs. Grantsville Cowboys

For the second straight game, South Summit will face off against Grantsville. South Summit will welcome Grantsville at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Summit has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Summit came up short against Grantsville on Tuesday, falling 11-1.

For Grantsville's part, Easton Webb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Webb a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Cummings, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cooper Castagno, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Grantsville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Summit struck out ten times.

The win made it two in a row for Grantsville and bumps their season record up to 3-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for South Summit, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
