Baseball Recap: Cocoa Beach Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cocoa Beach's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cocoa Tigers a 37-0 shutout. With that victory, the Minutemen brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Jacob Kromash was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Kromash was also big at the plate, getting on base in six of his seven plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one double. He also put up two hits, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Ceruti, who got on base in all seven of his plate appearances with five runs, six RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Cocoa Beach: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Vincent Barchanowicz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Cocoa Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.

The win snapped Cocoa Beach's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-6 record. As for Cocoa, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Cocoa Beach is taking a road trip to face off against Melbourne Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cocoa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Ridge at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Cocoa has given up an average of 23.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
