Basketball Recap: Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy vs. University Prep Jaguars

Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 61-45 bruising from the University Prep Jaguars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-39 back in December of 2024.

Luis Carpio and John Botros certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Carpio posted 13 points, while Botros put up nine points.

University Prep found their leader in freshman DONALD McFARLIN, who had 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for McFARLIN. Another player making a difference was BRANDON MARTINEZ, who scored eight points along with eight boards and seven blocks.
