Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Somerville). Everything went their way against the North Zulch Bulldogs on Friday as Somerville made off with a 19-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Yeguas, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Aubrey Flencher made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Jo Neuendorff, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Somerville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The victory got Somerville back to even at 9-9. As for North Zulch, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Coincidentally, Somerville and North Zulch will both be playing Iola the next time they take the field. Somerville will head out to face Iola at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while North Zulch will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
