Basketball Recap: Belton Comes Up Short

Belton lost against Grain Valley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Belton Pirates fell just short of the Grain Valley Eagles by a score of 57-54. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Belton lost, don't look at Jayce Maiden. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Cooper Shrum was another key player, going 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Belton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Belton's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Grain Valley, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belton will square off against Ruskin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Grain Valley, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Platte County at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st. Grain Valley is facing Platte County at the right time seeing as Platte County is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
