Basketball Recap: Chatham Central Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Chatham Central had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against the Graham Red Devils as they made off with an 81-59 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Red Devils are ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham Central had a senior duo take command as Reid Albright dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds and Brennen Oldham went 7 for 13 en route to 18 points along with eight assists and seven boards. Albright is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last 38 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Luke Gaines, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Chatham Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Graham's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ladario Johnson, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Jayvon Farrington also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Chatham Central pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Graham, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Chatham Central will head out to square off against Cummings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chatham Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. As for Graham, they are taking a road trip to challenge Jordan-Matthews at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Graham has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 177 points over their last three games.
