Softball Game Preview: Liberty Eagles vs. Quincy Blue Devils

Liberty is 0-7 against Quincy since April of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles will face off against the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. Liberty will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Liberty came out on top against Beardstown on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Eagles walked away with a 7-3 win over the Tigers.

Chandler John spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Anna Dietrich was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Riley Fessler also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Geneseo hit Quincy with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils lost 12-1 to the Maple Leafs. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Maple Leafs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Quincy's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.

Quincy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. It's a different story for Quincy, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?

Liberty couldn't quite finish off Quincy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
