Softball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks

Porter Ridge is 1-9 against Marvin Ridge since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Porter Ridge barely beat Lee Park Prep the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates blew past the Knights 17-3 on Thursday. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge faced Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mavericks were the clear victors by a 15-7 margin over the Panthers. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Porter Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Marvin Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.

Porter Ridge might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Marvin Ridge when the teams last played back in March. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
