Preview: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. La Veta Redhawks
Two dominant in Kolby Shellabarger and Isiah Rodriguez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the La Veta Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sangre de Cristo will be strutting in after a win while La Veta will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Sangre de Cristo didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Custer County, but they still walked away with a 42-37 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sangre de Cristo.
Meanwhile, La Veta's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 55-41 fall against Sargent. While losing is never fun, La Veta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Sargent is ranked 79th).
Sangre de Cristo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for La Veta, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Sangre de Cristo ended up a good deal behind La Veta in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, losing 54-40. Thankfully for Sangre de Cristo, Joe Autry (who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
