Preview: Charlotte Orioles vs. Pennfield Panthers
The Charlotte Orioles just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Pennfield Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Monday, things could have been worse for Charlotte, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 41-24 loss to Olivet.
Charlotte's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Peyton Howarth, who scored 16 points, and Jaelyn Baker who scored six points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Howarth scored 15 or more points.
Meanwhile, Pennfield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. The matchup between Pennfield and Coldwater wasn't particularly close, with Pennfield falling 39-22. While losing is never fun, Pennfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Coldwater is ranked 80th).
Charlotte's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Pennfield, they bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Charlotte couldn't quite finish off Pennfield when the teams last played back in March of 2021 and fell 42-39. Can Charlotte avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
