Sweetwater and Clyde are an even 3-3-1 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Sweetwater Mustangs will challenge the Clyde Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Sweetwater's victory against Merkel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Sweetwater had just enough and edged out Merkel 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since February 22nd.

Milani Torres was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Phoenix Walker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Torres wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Sweetwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Clyde waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Kaycee Bingham's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chasity Davis and Brileigh Dailey did most of the damage at the plate: Davis scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Dailey scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-4. Brooklen Crider also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Clyde pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sweetwater, their record now sits at 7-8-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sweetwater hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Clyde struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sweetwater might still be hurting after the 17-6 defeat they got from Clyde when the teams last played on Thursday. Can Sweetwater avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
