Doral Academy is on a 20-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Coral Reef is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Firebirds will host the Barracudas at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Doral Academy 1.2, Coral Reef 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Doral Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against West Broward by a score of 4-0. The Firebirds haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Meagan Villazon, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep West Broward off the board.
On the hitting side, Anabela Abdullah was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Coral Reef ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Merritt Island.
Quinley Wylie spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brianna Fields, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Chloe Junco also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Coral Reef's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Doral Academy, their win bumped their record up to 19-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Doral Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Coral Reef struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Doral Academy took their victory against Coral Reef in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Barracudas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
