Escambia Academy waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They strolled past the Sparta Academy Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 54-38. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Warriors are ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sparta Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Koltin Barlow, who posted six points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Brodie Fowler, who put up four points and three steals.

Escambia Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Sparta Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Jackson Academy the next time they take the court. Escambia Academy will head out to face Jackson Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Sparta Academy will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th.
