Basketball Recap: Friendswood Makes It Ten in a Row at Home

Friendswood won the last time they faced La Porte and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Friendswood Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the La Porte Bulldogs, sneaking past 71-69. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 164th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Defeat or not, La Porte got some senior leadership from Trent Callies and Cody Miller. Callies went 7 of 15 en route to 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Miller dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance gave Callies a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Smith, who posted seven points and six boards.

Friendswood's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for La Porte, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-9.

Coincidentally, Friendswood and La Porte will both be playing Texas City the next time they take the court. La Porte will host Texas City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Friendswood will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st.
