Basketball Recap: Lab University Prep Regional Comes Up Short

Lab University Prep Regional was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 70-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Charlotte Elite Academy Soldiers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Kings came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Soldiers are ranked 372nd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Charlotte Elite Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Deshaun Nicholson, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Nicholson is becoming a predictor of Charlotte Elite Academy's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 4-2 (and 5-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Huffman, who went 5-for-10 en route to 16 points along with seven assists and four steals.

Lab University Prep Regional's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Charlotte Elite Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Lab University Prep Regional will square off against Tournament Opponent on Saturday. As for Charlotte Elite Academy, they will challenge Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
