Softball Recap: Moose Lake/Willow River's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Moose Lake/Willow River dropped their record down to 9-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 9-5 to the Aitkin Gobblers. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gobblers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Aitkin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

For Aitkin's part, they got a massive performance out of Natalie Stueven, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Stueven has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Shereck, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Moose Lake/Willow River and Aitkin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Rebels (ranked 35th) will meet Cherry (ranked 110th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Aitkin will square off against East Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (56 vs. 298).
