Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Lawrence-Nelson

Lawrence-Nelson waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 56-52 W against the Red Cloud Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Warriors back in December of 2024, they had to take a 54-38 loss.

Lawrence-Nelson was led to victory by Wyatt Frey and Aidan Zikmund. Frey dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards, while Zikmund posted seven points along with six assists and six rebounds. Frey has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 14 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Cox, who earned eight points and five boards.

Lawrence-Nelson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Red Cloud still got an impressive performance from Gage Ely, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 36.5% of Red Cloud's points, marking the fourth time in a row Ely has scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Conner Rust, who had nine points and five steals.

Lawrence-Nelson's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Red Cloud, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-7 record this season.

Lawrence-Nelson will head out on the road to face off against Silver Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Red Cloud does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
